Information we collect
Information you give us
When you create an account we ask for your email address and a password. You may optionally add your name, company name, phone number and country. If you buy a paid plan, our payment partner collects your billing details β we explain that below.
Information from your scans
When you run a scan, we store the address you submitted, the pages our scanner visited, and the accessibility findings for those pages. Findings include short fragments of the page markup that caused an issue, because without that fragment the report would not be useful to a developer.
If you choose to run an authenticated scan, you may supply login credentials or exported session cookies. These are used only for the duration of that scan so the scanner can reach pages behind a login. We do not keep them after the scan finishes, and we never display them back to you or to anyone else.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our servers record basic technical details when you visit β for example your browser type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you opened. We use this to keep the service running, investigate errors and detect abuse.
Why we use your information
- To create your account and let you sign in.
- To run the scans you request and show you the results.
- To keep a history of your scans so you can compare them over time.
- To process payments and send receipts for paid plans.
- To send service messages such as password resets or scan completion notices.
- To protect the service against misuse, fraud and automated abuse.
- To fix bugs and improve how the scanner works.
Our legal grounds for using your data
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, data protection law requires us to name the legal ground we rely on for each use. Ours are set out below.
| What we do | Legal ground |
|---|---|
| Creating your account, running the scans you ask for, showing results | Performance of our contract with you |
| Taking payment and issuing invoices | Performance of our contract with you |
| Sending service emails such as password resets | Performance of our contract with you |
| Keeping logs, preventing abuse, investigating faults, improving the scanner | Our legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable service |
| Marketing emails, where you have asked for them | Your consent, which you may withdraw at any time |
| Keeping billing and tax records | Compliance with a legal obligation |
Where your data is stored and sent
We are based in India. Our application and database are hosted in asia-southeast1-eqsg3a located πΈπ¬ Southeast Asia (Singapore) . This means that if you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, your personal data may be transferred outside that area when you use our service.
India has not received an adequacy decision from the European Commission. Where we transfer personal data from the UK or EEA to ourselves in India, or to a provider outside those regions, we rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission (and the UK Addendum where the transfer originates in the United Kingdom) as the safeguard for that transfer.
You may ask us for further detail about these safeguards using the contact details above.
Payments and billing
Paid subscriptions are handled by our payment partner, who acts as the merchant of record for the transaction. When you pay, you are entering the payment details on their secure checkout, not on our servers. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only a confirmation of the payment, the plan purchased, and a reference identifier so we can activate your subscription. our payment partner handles the compliance obligations associated with global billing and taxation.
Services we rely on
We use a small number of third-party providers to operate the service. Each one only receives the data it needs to do its job:
- A cloud hosting provider that runs our application and database.
- A payment provider that processes subscriptions and issues invoices.
- An email delivery provider that sends account and notification emails.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences such as your language. These are necessary for the service to work. If you block them in your browser, signing in may not function correctly.
How long we keep data
We do not keep personal data longer than we need it. Our normal periods are:
| Data Category | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Account details | Maintained while your account remains active, then permanently deleted within 30 days of account closure. |
| Scan results and reports | 24 months |
| Credentials or cookies given for authenticated scans | Discarded immediately and erased from volatile memory as soon as the active scan process terminates. |
| Technical and security logs | 90 days |
| Invoices and billing records | 7 years (Statutory retention period required by international tax regulations). |
If you close your account we remove your personal details and scan history on the schedule above, keeping only what the law obliges us to retain.
Your rights
You can exercise any of the following at any time. These rights are guaranteed to people in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, and we extend them to every user regardless of location.
- Access β ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction β ask us to fix anything that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erasure β ask us to delete your account and the data attached to it.
- Portability β receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format. You can do this yourself at any time using the JSON export in your dashboard, or ask us and we will send it.
- Restriction β ask us to pause our use of your data while a dispute or correction is being resolved, instead of deleting it.
- Objection β object to processing we carry out on the basis of our legitimate interests. We will stop unless we have compelling grounds to continue.
- Withdraw consent β where we rely on your consent, such as marketing emails, you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
To make a request, email us at techtipsall@techtipsall.com. We respond within one month. We do not charge for these requests.
Making a complaint
If you think we have handled your personal data incorrectly, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country. If you are in the European Economic Area, that is the supervisory authority for the country where you live or work. If you are in the United Kingdom, it is the Information Commissioner's Office. Contacting us first is not a condition of exercising that right.
Security
Traffic to and from our service is encrypted. Passwords are stored in hashed form, which means we cannot read them. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Scanning other people's websites
Our scanner reads publicly reachable pages in the same way an ordinary browser does. You are responsible for making sure you have permission to scan any address you submit, particularly when supplying login credentials. Please see our Terms of Service for more on this.
Children
This service is intended for professional use and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under sixteen.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. For significant changes we will also notify account holders by email.
